Student Awards: An Exciting Way to Wrap Up The School Year

Well here we are at the end of another school year where many schools are still learning online. In the closing weeks, many teachers are asking how to make the experience not only positive, but fun for the students. Let me share with you an activity that I have used successfully in my online classes. Let’s hold an online awards ceremony and present some student awards!

Last year, I posted a list of exciting virtual activities to do to celebrate the end of the school year. In years past, I have planned special online awards ceremony for my students. I will virtually present their certificates, diplomas, and trophies during this time. To make it a special event, I set up a table in my background to display all the awards. I also put together a special awards-themed Google Slide presentation for the day. I also include red carpet music and an applause sound effect to play during presentations.

Presenting student awards at the end of the year can be an exciting way to maintain engagement and recognize hard work.

Types of Student Awards

Student Awards Day
Virtual end of year activities - awards

I’ve done a mixture of different types of student awards in my classes before. I’ve done academic achievement awards as well as fun character description awards. The truth is, no matter the type of award, students love receiving them! I like to include a variety of different types because this allows me to be able to highlight the different achievements of ALL my students. Achievements are not always academic in nature and students deserve to have their hard work recognized and validated, whatever it might be.

Some of the awards will be paper certificates that I create using Google Slides and then share with students after it has been awarded. For other achievements, I purchase medallions and trophies from a local business. I will show the students the trophy online when I award the achievement and then will mail out the medallion or trophy for them to have. This has been a part of my program in the past that students have looked forward to.

New Awards Have Arrived

This year, I decided that my student awards needed to be refreshed. Which means I am super excited to announce the newest addition to my shop! End of Year Student Awards are a perfect resource for distance learning.

I have crafted 25 different pre-designed awards. Each of them come in a digital format in full colour with corresponding vector images. But that’s not all. The Google Slides file is also a certificate theme. There are 8 editable and customizable awards for that student who doesn’t fall into one of the pre-designed templates. You can easily design an award just for them!

**I’ve got a video tutorial coming soon. 😉

There are four different files in the set.

  1. A fully editable Google Slides file that contains all 25 pre-designed student awards. You can type your students’ names on the award and then print them or use them in an online setting.
  2. A PDF of the certificates so you can print and then write your students’ names in by hand.
  3. A fully editable Student Award Planning Sheet to help you make sure all students in your class receive an award. Each of the 25 student awards are listed with space to write up to two different student names next to it. Extra blank spaces are also provided in order for you to list any additional awards you design yourself.
  4. A list of 40+ additional student award options to jumpstart your imagination.
