EdmodoCon 2015

In my previous post on Developing a Professional Learning Network, I mentioned a professional development event called EdmodoCon that I attend each summer.  I wanted to take a few moments to share with all of you a little bit about my experiences there and why I would recommend it to all my teaching colleagues.

EdmodoCon has got to be the single, best, one-day PD event that happens during the summer months.  It is an entire day (12 hrs worth) of one hour sessions on a variety of topics that focus on using technology in the classroom.  Last year, there was a large amount of presenters who were classroom teachers sharing tips, tricks, and techniques that are proven to work with students.

The event is sponsored by Edmodo and this year will be held on Tuesday, August 4.  This is a virtual event, held online.  No matter where in the world you live, you are able to attend.  Each year we see more and more attendees from all parts of the globe.  All the presentations are recorded and uploaded to Edmodo’s blog and access is provided year long.  I’ve often gone back and referenced these recordings.  After a full day of PD sessions, the amount of information can get overwhelming so it’s great to have this resource to go back to.

Types of topics that have been discussed are issues like tablets in the classroom, incorporating an LMS (Learning Management System), digital citizenship, and gamification.  My favourite session last year was all about how to incorporate badges and gamification into the Language Arts classroom by Nathan Garvin.

If all that isn’t already enough, each registered participant is given a certificate of participation and has multiple opportunities throughout the event to win various prizes, including neat Edmodo swag.

I am so excited to attend, once again, this August.  It’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with other educators and develop your PLN.  I hope that many of you will join me. 🙂

UPDATE:  Registration for this online event is officially open now.  Follow the link HERE to register.
